What to do about dues

Since 1929, a portion of every member's annual dues has been sent to Moose Headquarters. The original amount was $1.00 per quarter (A Big Charity Dollar or ABCD) this was $4.00 a year. It's been raised since, but has never been even close to keeping pace with inflation. In February 2008, the Supreme Council made the tough decision to significantly increase each member's Per-Capita. (for details on this story, see the cover story in the May/ June/July issue in the Moose Magazine, page 46).

Starting in September 2008, Moose International will be increasing the ABCD per-capita portion of your annual dues, (the amount retained by Moose International), from the current $16.00 a year to $28.00 a year and plans on adding at least $2.00 a year for following 5 years. What does this mean? It means the portion that your Lodge gets back from your $40. .00 annual dues, will go down from $24.00 annually, to $12.00 annually, after 5 years, that would he reduced to just $2.00 a year. Your Lodge pays your AZ/NM Moose Association dues of $2.00 annually which would leave $0.00 coming to your Lodge from your dues.

What do we do about dues? A dues increase would require a change to the By-Laws, this action requires a "Special Meeting" of the membership. How much do we raise our annual dues? $15.00 a year to $55.00? And readdress this again in a few years? Should we increase them by $20.00?

The Officers of Yuma Lodge #1627, want your input.
Please attend your September 16th General Membership meeting at 7:PM. Your input will help the Officers draw-up the "By-Laws" change language and set a date for the "Special Meeting". The Officers will try to answer your questions or address your concerns.
